Every ophthalmologist has a group of experienced personnel to support him or her. One of these people is the ophthalmic technologist, who acts in an assistant role. They are a vitally important part of the ophthalmologist’s team since they operate much of the equipment in the ophthalmologist’s office, take medical histories, and administer any medication needed.

Ophthalmic technologists gather information needed by the ophthalmologist during patient examinations, as well as make sure you understand your diagnosis and the prescribed treatment. Some ophthalmic technologists may assist the ophthalmologist with eye surgery by using sophisticated equipment in the operating room.
